"Come Have a Seat by the Fire"
Like many inner-city youths, our founder, Glenn Key, grew up in Reading, PA, with limited opportunities to escape the concrete streets he called home. The great outdoors remained a distant world, a shared experience among too few of our youth. This is where Block 2 Bank Fishing comes in – to rewrite that narrative by introducing inner-city youth from Berks County and its neighboring areas to the beauty of nature and the thrill of competitive bass fishing.
Approximately a decade ago, Glenn stumbled upon the Schuylkill River and noticed a stirring in its waters. Having only fished once or twice as a child, now in his thirties, he felt an undeniable urge to catch that elusive fish. Armed with a basic setup – a nightcrawler and a bobber – his determination grew. When he reeled in his first smallmouth bass, no matter how small, a spark ignited.
A few years later, Glenn was introduced to the world of competitive bass fishing and was struck by its glaring lack of diversity. This realization fueled his determination to be the change he wanted to see. In 2019, Block 2 Bank Fishing was but a concept, a vision of how to lead inner-city kids from the blocks of their neighborhoods to the banks of rivers, streams, and ponds. In 2021, that vision transformed into reality, and by 2022, it was officially established. Join us on our mission to reshape the story of inner-city life and to make waves in the world of competitive bass fishing.
FOUNDER-GLENN W. KEY
Our mission is to foster a love for the great outdoors to the youth of our community, through freshwater fishing and competitive bass fishing.
“The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions of hope.”
— American Author John Buchan
